Sathnam Sanghera (“Laying stress on stress”, November 14) couldn’t have put it more aptly. The real problem about stress is the fact that it is recognised as a problem and we want to eliminate it completely from our lives. As he points out, the most stressless people are the biggest underachievers.
A corollary is blood pressure — too much is bad, but so is too little. Part of the problem lies in people getting so involved in their work, they don’t have time to be with friends anymore, so there is no stress reliever and they have to rely on the “stress ball” Sanghera talks of. And that doesn’t work.
