LG Electronics India becomes world's first company to bag BS EN 16001 certification

In continuation with its successful growth strategy LG Electronics India the most preferred Consumer Durable Brand in the country has now accomplished the most sought after honor globally. LG Electronics India has now become the World’s first company to receive the BS EN 16001 Certification for Excellence in Energy Management by British Standards Institute Management Systems (BSI)

The primary aim of BS EN 16001:2009 (Energy Management System) standards is to aid organizations to establish the systems and processes necessary to improve energy efficiency. This will result in reductions in cost and Green House Gas (GHG) emissions through systematic management of energy.

The Greater Noida Plant of LG Electronics which has a total manufacturing capacity of around 10 million units introduced an Energy Management system to develop, establish and implement policies leading to conservation of energy in the year 2009.  The energy management system has equipped the consumer durable major to take a systematic approach to the continual improvement of its energy efficiency consequently, taking it to the current stature of Global Success and Gratitude

The British Standards Institute Management Systems (BSI) lays down requirements for continual improvement in the shape of more efficient and sustainable energy use; irrespective of the type of energy. LG’s performance indicator is Energy Consumption, and this has witnessed a 30% reduction in 2009 compared to last year. The performance indicator is primarily the cost incurred in Energy with respect to the total Production Amount; which was calculated to be 0.48% in yr 2008 and stands at 0.33%. Thus, showcasing LG’s success in achieving all the parameters set by BSI.

On this achievement Mr. Moon B Shin, MD, LGEIL said, ‘We are proud to be honored with the BS EN 16001 certification. Acknowledging the Global need of the hour to safeguard our natural resources and ensuring its optimal utilization we at LG adopted the BS EN 16001 Energy Management System. This is a world renowned methodology which has reduced the cost involved in the manufacturing of our products through a planned approach. Supporting our aim of improving energy efficiency, this standard provides us the best way to achieve our targets helping us improve productivity by categorizing technical solutions to reduce energy consumption. The energy Management System enables us to understand the energy risk exposure and identify areas of the organization that are at greater risk. Through this initiative we have managed to save Rs. 2 crore approx within the last two years. Therefore, making the Life Good for us’’

Elaborating on this unique foray of LG, Mr. Vipin Gupta, Factory Head, LGEIL said, “We have always maintained strict quality parameters in our manufactured products that fits the need of Indian consumer. We have undertaken a lot of research and given undivided attention to the minutest details involved in the process of manufacturing. In lieu of our quest for Energy & Waste Management we had adopted the BS EN 16001 Energy Management System which has helped us identify measure & manage energy consumption. 

LG always wanted to reduce their Carbon footprints which lead LG to get BS EN 16001:2009 Certification and this was achieved by well defined Energy Policy , Energy Objectives , Energy Procedure , Work Instruction for all energy consuming equipment , Training System and  Management commitment “
