The finance ministry has said it expects to save only Rs 98 crore per year from the withdrawal of the leave travel concession facility.
In a reply to the Lok Sabha, the ministry has informed that it is considering a proposal from the tourism ministry to revive the facility under which government employees and their families are financed the cost of their travel to anywhere in India. The ministry said the government had taken the decision to suspend the facility in the budget this year to cut down non-plan expenditure.
In reply to another question, the ministry has said a total of 132 film personalities including Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Subhash Ghai, Ram Gopal Verma and Yash Johar, owe income tax of more than Rs 105 crore as on June this year.
While Amitabh Bachchan's ABCL owes the highest due of Rs 17.77 crore, the mega stars personal liability is Rs 10.67 crore while wife Jaya owes Rs 1.9 crore. Shah Rukh owes Rs 2.75 crore while Mukta Arts' dues are Rs 1.76 crore.
