| The Maharashtra government has decided to set up Rajmata Jijaumata Child Health and Nutrition Mission with the financial aid from Unicef to fight the increasing malnutrition problem in children, mostly from tribal and weaker strata of the society.

| “The figure of malnourished children, in grade III and IV, between the age of 0-6 years is likely to be 70-80 thousand through out the state and the mission will attempt to synergise the efforts more effectively,” chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh said after a special Cabinet meeting held here to address the problems of the Marathwada region.

| |
| Various schemes to check malnutrition problem in the state did not yield satisfactory results but a campaign was successful in reducing the malnutrition problem among children in the age group 0-6 years in the Marathwada division, the chief minister said adding that it would be implemented throughout the state through this mission.

| |
| “The state exchequer will not have any burden as the mission would be set up with the financial assistance of Unicef,” Deshmukh said.
|
| |
| The head office of the mission will be at Aurangabad so that the authorities to be trained for implementing the programmes under the mission throughout the state are given proper guidance alongwith the demonstration of the results of the programmes.
|
| |
| Divisional commissioner of the Aurangabad division V Ramani would be the director general of the mission to be set up with immediate effect, the chief minister added. |
