Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has always led a simple life and has not changed even as she occupies the highest chair in Rail Bhawan. She has so far refused to take the red beacon-fitted white Ambassador car and prefers to travel in her aide’s Maruti Zen. She is also likely to retain her flat in MS Building on Baba Kharak Singh Marg in New Delhi, even though she is entitled to a plush bungalow. This has made other ministers of the party follow her. Mukul Roy, the minister of state for shipping, has already announced that he will not use any pilot car and the red beacon-fitted vehicle in Kolkata and New Delhi.
