Disgruntled Congressmen can now take the Mamata Express in Arunachal Pradesh as well. Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee has decided that her party will contest the Arunachal Pradesh assembly elections in order to increase its vote share at the national level. She hopes this will help Trinamool qualify as a nationally recognised party. Since the party has no base there, Banerjee has given tickets to all rebel Congress leaders in the state. Out of 60 seats in Arunachal Pradesh, Banerjee has fielded candidates in 30, all of them ex-Congressmen who switched over to Trinamool after being denied tickets by the Congress.
