| Manpower Inc, the US-based $11.8 billion work force management services provider, is introducing its online e-learning tool, ‘Global Learning Centre (GLC)’ in India.
| |
| The company, which has a wholly owned subsidiary here, is in talks with the government, several public and private sector companies and educational institutions to roll out the needed infrastructure for the free online university on a large scale by early next year.
| |
| “Anybody who has access to the Internet will be able to use our over 2,000 courses and update his skills. This initiative is a part of our corporate social responsibility programme,” said David Arkless, senior vice-president (corporate affairs) of Manpower Inc.
| |
| “Although India has a potential work force of millions, only a small proportion of this job-ready. For effective work force development in this growing economy, the public and the private sectors need to work together to lay the necessary infrastructure. Our corporate social responsibility and career development programmes can be useful in shaping the country’s future work force,” he said.
| |
| Arkless refused to disclose the amount of investment planned or the number of people to be hired for this.
| |
| “We will do all that it takes. India is a new terrain for us. We are in talks with several large companies like Microsoft and IBM among others to put in place the required infrastructure. At this stage I can say that these will be massive investments,” Arkless said.
| |
| The free online university is available in 70 countries across the world. After launching it in several countries like Singapore, Taiwan and Philippines in the Asia-Pacific region, the company now plans to introduce it in India and China almost on a simultaneous basis.
