Markets pare gains

The Sensex has pared its morning gains and is moving in a range of 100 points, between 18,100 and 18,200. However, the smallcap continue to hold its morning gains and is up 1% while the midcap index is at 0.9% compared to the benchmark index at 0.5%. The Sensex is at 18088, up 90 points and the Nifty is at 5431, gains of 23 points.

In the smallcap space, 465 scrips have advanced while 60 srips has declined. HBL Power up 15% is the top gainer followed by EIH Associated adding 14%, Greenply Industries gaining 11% and Hercules up 10%.In the midcap space, 237 scrips moved up while 34 declined. EIH up 10%, Wockhardt, United Breweries and Mahindra Holidays adding 5% each are the top gainers here.

Among the sectoral indices, Metal continues to shine up 1.6% followed by Realty and Consumer Durables up 1% each. However, FMCG, IT and Teck has slipped into the red, to be at the bottom of the chart.Tata Steel, Hindalco up 2% each are the movers in the metal space while TCS, Infosys and  Wipro down 1% each are the draggers in the IT space.

ONGC, Jindal Steel and ICICI Bank up 2% each are the top gainers on the Sensex apart from the metal scrips. Sterlite, Jaiprakash Associates gaining 1.5% followed.

Other than the IT scrips, the losers on the Sensex are ITC down nearly 1% followed by HDFC Bank and  Hindustan Unilever shedding 0.5% and 0.2% respectively.

Of the total 2666 stocks traded on the BSE, 1934 have advanced while 656 have declined.
