Markets recover from day's lows

The Sensex is at 18049, higher by 50 points and the Nifty is at 5427, up 19 points.

The markets have registered a new intra-day low of 18,032, down 184 points from the day's high. The Sensex is at 18010, higher by 12 points and the Nifty is flat at 5409. On the broader market front, the smallcap index and the benchmark index are in sync at 0.3% while the midcap index is at 0.2%.

On the BSE sectoral indices, Metals up 1.3% continue to lead. Oil & Gas has advanced 0.7% followed by Consumer Durables and Health Care.Realty has slipped and is at 0.3%. Teck, FMCG and IT continue to remain in the red. The movers in the Oil & Gas space are ONGC up nearly 3%, Aban Offshore and RNRL adding nearly 1%.

The gainers on the Sensex are Tata Steel and ONGC up nearly 3%, Bharti Airtel adding 2%,Hindalco,Jindal Steel and Maruti Suzuki gaining 1.5% each.

On the losers list are TCS and ITC down 1% each followed by Infosys, BHEL, HDFC Bank and Hindustan Unilever shedding 0.5% each.

The market breadth is marginally positive. 1577 stocks have advanced while 1296 have declined.
