Markets trade listless

After a quiet opening, the markets are having a rough session with Sensex moving without any direction. The Sensex is at 18,258 adding 18 points while the Nifty is flat at 5,485. In the broader markets, the smallcap index has pared its initial gains and is at 0.7% in line with the midcap index. The benchmark index continues to underperform and is at 0.09%.

Of the total 531 scrips traded in the smallcap space, 393 have advanced while 119 have declined. The movers here are Venkys India and     Shristi Infrastructure up 10% each followed by Goodyear India, Brandhouse Retails and Balkrishna Industries adding 8% each. In the midcap space, 204 scrips have advanced while 66 have declined. Nirma up 14%, Zydus Wellness gaining 7% and Bajaj Financial Services gaining 5% are the movers here.

Among the sectoral indices on the BSE, IT continues to lead at 0.9% closelt followed by Realty. Teck has pared some of its morning gains and is in line with the Auto index uo 0.8%. Capital Goods have moved into the green while Bankex, FMCG and Oil & Gas still continue at the bottom of the chart in the red. The movers in the IT space are Tech Mahindra adding nearly 4%, Infosys, Patni Computer and HCL Tech gaining 1% each.

The gainers in the Sensex-30 stocks are Mahindra & Mahindra (Rs 639) and Hero Honda (Rs 1730) up 2% each, ONGC (Rs 1341) and     Infosys (Rs 2789) adding 1% each.

Jindal Steel (Rs 692), RIL (Rs 929) and Jaiprakash Associates (Rs 113) down nearly 1% are the major losers on the Sensex.

The market breadth is positive. 1814 stocks have advanced while 713 have declined.
