Betting big on India's pet food market, US-based food products maker Mars Inc today re-launched its dog food brand Pedigree along with a new range of snacks and treats for pets.
The company hopes to achieve a retail sales value of Rs 100 crore this year from Pedigree.
"We have re-launched our Pedigree brand in the country with a new packaging and an entirely new range of snacks and treats for pets. We hope to achieve a retail value of Rs 100 crore this year from the brand, a growth of almost 30 per cent over last year," Mars International India Director (Corporate Affairs) Nitin Kulkarni told reporters here.
"The Indian pet population is around 80 lakh dogs and 15 lakh cats, which is increasing by 10-15 per cent annually. This offers tremendous opportunity for us," Kulkarni said.
The Indian organised pet care market is of Rs 400 crore and Mars is also looking to increase its retail presence here.
"We are present in 22,000 vet clinics, chemists shops and large format stores. This year we are looking to increase our presence to at least 30,000 points of sales," Mars International India Director (Demand) N Balasubramanian said.
