Matisse Networks set for products` trial in US
Our Regional Bureau / Hyderabad April 27, 2005
US-based Matisse Networks, which is into Dense Wave Division Multiplexing (DWDM) packet switching for multi-service metro networks, will undertake the trial of its products in the US in the latter half of 2005.

The company has already been awarded two patents and has filed for another five.

The company has its design centre in Hyderabad. It announced the appointment of L R Jayanthi as the head of its city centre on Tuesday.

Addressing a press conference, Sam Mathan, chief executive officer of Matisse Networks, said, “We have patented our DWDM packet switching technology that delivers a packet architecture where wavelengths can be switched to different destinations. The product will undergo trial by the end of this calendar year and will be targeted towards large enterprises that have access to resources to run such networks and service providers, who provide large bandwidth in metro networks.”

The technology is slated to cost less than the existing circuit-based technology as it would not require complex circuit provisioning. Also, each transport access point (TAP) will be integrated in a single architecture.

Therefore, each TAP will be able to send data at the rate of 10 gigabits/second while simultaneously receiving the same.

The Hyderabad centre of Matisse focuses on switching, routing and network management. It has 15 employees and the company is looking at increasing the headcount here as well.

The company has so far invested around $4 million in the centre and may increase the investment amount in future. Matisse has raised funds of over $21 million to date.
