Maytas Infra board moves CLB for removal of former director
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Jul 15, 2009, 21:03 IST

In a surprise move, the Maytas Infra board today approached the Company Law Board (CLB) to remove erstwhile director R P Raju from proceedings in a case filed by the government for superseding of the company's board.

Shortly after seeking removal of the board of Satyam, after the financial scam revealed by its founder-Chairman B Ramalinga Raju, the government had moved CLB in February against Maytas Infra, headed by Teja Raju, the son of IT firm's top official, alleging mismanagement in the affairs of the company.

Since then, the Maytas board has four nominees of the government, which does not appear to favour removal of Raju from the list of respondents. The latest move is supported by an unanimous resolution of the board, Maytas Counsel Sunil Malhotra from Laware and Associates said before the CLB Chairman.

The Maytas Counsel said R P Raju had resigned from the board of the company on March 26 after which he is not responsible for the conduct of the company and therefore his name has "been improperly joined as party to the proceedings".

Further, he said that a further resolution for the same can also be produced if demanded. The CLB has asked the government to file a reply by July 31.
