| The Tamil Nadu registry of MCA 21, an e-governance initiative by the ministry of company affairs, was launched in Chennai on Saturday.

| The project, India's largest e-governance initiative aimed at bringing speed and efficiency in the functioning of the ministry, has already been rolled out in 17 of the 20 registrar of companies.

| The initiative is also being launched in Kolkata, marking the completion of its implementation in the country, except in Jammu & Kashmir, where it could not be implemented due to lack of connectivity.

| MCA 21 is being executed by the ministry in partnership with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) on a public private partnership model.

| Under the partnership, TCS is responsible for owning, operating and maintaining the system for a period of six years.
|

| Addressing a function, Tanmoy Chakrabarty, vice-president and head, global government industry group, TCS, said that 180,000 e-filing of documents had been filed since the launch of the project and the website of ministry of company affairs was receiving 2.3 million hits every day.

| Union minister of communication and technology, Dayanidhi Maran, who launched the initiative, urged other ministries to launch such initiatives.

| He added that 39 ROC (registrar of companies) facilitation centres across the country were providing facilitation services for electronic filing with over 3,000 customer service executives.

| Speaking on the occasion, Prem Chand Gupta, union minister of company affairs, said the objective of the initiative was to provide a 'new look ROC' by bringing transparency and efficiency in the delivery of its services. |
