| MGL to invest Rs 300 cr for city gas projects |

Mahanagar Gas (MGL) will invest over Rs 300 crore in the current fiscal to take piped natural gas to more households and setting up 17 CNG stations in Mumbai and adjoining areas.
This follows a directive from Petroleum Minister Murli Deora to "provide cheaper and environment-friendly fuel targetting new consumers", for which a 100-day programme for roll-out of city gas projects is also being worked out.
In a meeting held with MGL Managing Director P K Gupta yesterday, the minister said pipelines must be laid expeditiously and new areas in the city must be connected with the gas grid.
The utility will connect the areas of Worli, Peddar Road, Babulnath, Cuffe Parade, Colaba and K C College in South Mumbai and Belapur, Thane, Navi Mumbai adjoining the city to its existing network.
MGL plans to source gas for the new consumers from Reliance Industries' prolific KG basin D6 field.
"We will be signing a contract with Reliance for 0.37 million standard cubic metres per day (mmscmd) of gas by June-end or the first week of July. We will be connected to their East-West pipeline and the Dahej Uran Pipeline (DUPL) at Mahape by July-end," Gupta told PTI here.
The company currently sources 1.62 mmscmd gas from ONGC's Mumbai High field.
