Mittal Steel senior executives announced here that the company had finalised the site of the proposed greenfield project of the company in Jharkhand but were not in a position to disclose the location.
The officials clarified that the company would not insist on the allocation of the iron ore mines at Chira by the Jharkhand government and that the Jharkhand project continued to be the company's top priority in the country.
The officials said that Mittal Steel needed an assurance that it would be getting adequate iron ore reserves to meet the requirements of the business.
Mittal Steel's managing director for iron ore investments M P Singh and the company's chief executive officer (CEO) for Indian projects Sanak Mishra met the Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda in the state capital on April 26 and apprised him of the progress made by the company in setting up the proposed Greenfield steel project in Jharkhand.
Soon after meeting the chief minister the managing director of Mittal Steel spoke to reporters and said that the company's Jharkhand greenfield project still enjoyed top priority among the projects envisaged by the steel multinational in India.
M P Singh claimed that the Mittal group had never demanded the Chiria iron ore mine for its proposed greenfield project.
It was the Jharkhand government which had offered Chiria iron to Mittal Steel much before signing of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) two years ago.
