| MLA uses tech to track development | |

The Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of the Ariyalur constituency is taking the help of technology to keep track of development activities and tackle school dropouts among others in his constituency.
With the help of an online portal, ‘eMLA’, SS Sivasankar is not only creating employment opportunity for rural folks but his portal also offers information on house site pattas, allows users to download various government departments’ forms and train timings and even a readymade database of people who are employable for both blue and white colour jobs.
Recounting one of his success stories, he says a steel manufacturer recruited 50 people for his plant at Pulikat from this database. The portal also has a database of around 180 students who were trained by the MLA in both IT, soft and technical skills.
These students are now ready to take up any data processing works, says Sivasankar. The MLA is planning to set up a rural BPO centre on his own in the constituency.
The site also helps Sivasankar to monitor each ward starting from streetlights, public distribution centres, water resources, road development projects and other municipal works. “If one streetlight goes off, I will come to know immediately thanks to my tracking technology,” Sivasankar claims.
Many state legislatures have provided MLAs and MLCS with laptops to encourage e-governance and give them an effective tool to track developments in their constituencies.
