Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M), nation's largest utility vehicle-maker will start production from its Chakan plant near Pune, by this month end, a senior company official said.
"We are all set to start production from our Chakan plant in the next 20-25 days. The new plant will be able to produce all of M&M vehicles and trucks," Mahindra Vehicles Manufacturers' CEO Louis Pereira told reporters here today.
M&M's new plant has a production capacity of 3,20,000 vehicles in the first phase. The company plans to increase production capacity in future. The Chakan plant will also help to cut logistics cost by up to 5 per cent of the company.
Initially, the plant will have four assembly lines and will target domestic as well as international markets. So far, the company has invested Rs 2,500-crore to set up the plant, he said.
In October, the company posted a 32 per cent sales growth in October and hopes to retain the momentum this month on the back of strong orders.
