Incessant rains continued to whip Pune and the whole of Western Maharashtra for the second day today even as the vital train link between the city and Mumbai was disrupted since this morning.
Pune-bound trains leaving the metropolis were behind schedule following formation of a big ditch along the rail track near Badlapur in Thane district, Central Railway officials here said.
The water level of Koyna reservoir in the neighbouring Satara district, where hydel power is generated, rose by eight feet and the Mahabaleshwar hill station in the same region recorded a rainfall of 434 mm during the last 36 hours, sources said.
A substantial rise was recorded in the water levels of four dams — Khadakwasla, Panshet, Varasgaon and Temghar — following heavy rains in the catchment areas of Mula and Mutha rivers which flow around the city, currently facing a water cut of 40 per cent due to a deficient rainfall hitherto.
