The Madhya Pradesh government has asked the British High Commission to extend Project Utthan for another year. The DFID-funded Rs 350-cr project envisages creation of infrastructure and making the urban slum areas environment-friendly by involving the urban poor.
Minister for local self government Babulal Gaur called on British High Commissioner Richard Stag and DFID India head Michael Anderson in Bhopal and demanded an extension for the project.
The project is being implemented in four cities — Bhopal, Indore, Jabalpur and Gwalior to create infrastructure like roads, drainage, sewage and other civic infrastructure.
The state government has created municipal-supported units for the purpose. However, the implementation is at slow pace. “The minister has urged to extend the project as implementation needs more time,” an official said.
