| Mr Kent Walwin conferred Dayawati Modi Award for Art, Culture and Education |

Dayawati Modi Foundation has been awarded Mr Kent Walwin, one of the most renowned practitioners in international film business with the prestigious ‘Dayawati Modi Award for Art, Culture and Education’ for the year 2009.
Shri V. Narayanasamy, Hon’ble Minister of State for Planning, Parliamentary Affairs & Culture, Government of India, General Secretary, AICC conferred the award to Kent Walwin at an event held today in the capital at Kamani Auditorium.
The award comprising a cash prize of Rs. 2.51 lakhs, a silver shield and scroll of honour was presented to Kent Walwin to mark the 94th birth anniversary of Late Smt. Dayawati Modi.
Kent entered the film business in Canada in 1970. At the same time, he established a number of UK companies, including an independent theatrical distribution group as well as a number of independent production vehicles. His considerable feature film and television credits range from classics such as Hotel New Hampshire starring Rob Lowe, Jodie Foster and Nastassja Kinski, to A Handful Of Dust with Kristin Scott-Thomas, Alec Guinness and Anjelica Huston, as well as Where Angels Fear To Tread with Helen Mirren, Judy Davis and Helena Bonham-Carter.
More recently he has extended his historical interests to include Arabia, with such films as Young Alexander and in China, Young Flying Tigers.
Mr Walwin now seeks to make his most important film to date, with fellow Executive Producers Mr. Satish Kumar Modi and Ms Sabine Raabe, he is embarking on the project, Young Jesus: The Missing Years, an interfaith film on the missing years of Jesus, believed to have been spent in India. This film inspired by Mr. S. K. Modi's book "In Love with Death", sets out to explore the mystery of Jesus’s journey to enlightenment and his interaction with other religions, in particular, Buddhism. Young Jesus: The Missing Years will be the first major religious film to be shot in 3D, thus bringing an added dimension to this little known aspect of Jesus’s life.
On the occasion, Mr Kent Walwin says, “Today, the technology, skill and talent of film-making in India have created a vibrant and possibly the world’s most significant film industry and in this spirit, I am very honoured to be awarded the Dayawati Modi Award for Art, Culture and Education. Film-making is absolutely instrumental in creating cultural and international ties and I am very privileged to be part of India’s contribution to film-making internationally.’
Kent Walwin joins the impressive list of previous awardees, which includes names like Amitabh Bachchan, Mother Teresa, Jagjit Singh, Pandit Jasraj, Asha Bhosle, Pandit Ravi Shankar, Tyeb Mehta, Dr. Abdul Waheed Khan and Prof Lokesh Chandra.
Announcing the details for this year’s award, Mr. Satish Kumar Modi, President of Dayawati Modi Foundation said, “It takes great pleasure in conferring the Dayawati Modi Award on Mr Kent Walwin in recognition of his lifetime contribution to the creative moving arts and the cultural ties between countries, India and UK in particular.

The award has been instituted by the Dayawati Modi Foundation for Art, Culture and Education of the Modi group in the memory of Late Smt. Dayawati Modi, wife of Late Rai Bahadur Gujar Mal Modi, founder of the Modi Group. Late Smt Dayawati Modi was a great philanthropist and an educationist. The Foundation has established schools and colleges, libraries and hostels for students.
