MTNL, Tata Tele, Nalco & Ashok Leyland Q2 result

Falling revenues from both mobile as well as fixed line subscribers have forced state-run telecom major Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL), which operates in Delhi and Mumbai, to post a steep 77.5 per cent fall in net profit to Rs 20.5 crore for the second quarter ending September 30, against Rs 91.5 crore in the same quarter last year. In the same period, the total income was Rs 972 crore against Rs 1,231 crore in the same quarter last year, a 21 per cent decline.

Tata Tele Q2 net up

Telecom services provider Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) has clocked a net profit of Rs 550 crore for the second quarter ended September 30 as compared to Rs 518 crore in the year-ago period. The subscriber base of the company at the end of the second quarter stood at 9.6 million, up 57 per cent from the same period in last year, a release said.

Nalco net erodes 64%

The state-run aluminium major National Aluminium Company (Nalco) has posted 64 per cent erosion in net profit at 159.49 crore in the second quarter ended September 30, 2009 as compared to Rs 444.46 crore in the corresponding quarter last year. Net sales of the company plunged 25.6 per cent to Rs 1143.06 crore from Rs 1536.42 crore during the period under consideration.

Ashok Leyland net rises 31%

Commercial vehicle major Ashok Leyland, part of Hinduja Group, has reported a net profit of Rs 88.60 crore for the quarter ended September 30, 2009, as compared with Rs 67.24 crore, during the same period last year, an increase of 31 per cent. Company’s total income dropped by 15 per cent to Rs 1,577.68 crore from Rs 1,870.47 crore.
