| The Bajaj Shah-controlled steelmaker Mukand Ltd has received a nod from the Commissioner of Labour, Maharashtra, for the closure of its foundry at Kurla, following which, its labour union moved the high court on Monday, for a stay on the order.

| Rajesh Shah, managing director, Mukand, told Business Standard, “We have received the legal approval from the Labour Commissioner, to close the Kurla foundry and consequent to the receipt of this order, we have terminated the services of the concerned employees, numbering around 350.”
|
| |
| The company had appealed to the Commissioner of Labour in July for obtaining its approval for the closure of its Kurla premises, which has been non-functional since the last two and a half years.
|
| |
| However, the appeal was rejected, which had led to the company moving a review application before the Maharashtra government in September.
|
| |
| In a notice to the Bombay Stock Exchange, Mukand informed that the Commissioner of Labour, Maharashtra, had reviewed the order and granted permission to close the foundry.
|
| |
| Company officials declined to comment on the labour union’s decision to move the high court. “All the employees have been paid their legal dues as per the law,” Shah said.
