The traders associated with jewellery and garment trades are much dependent on Mumbai for the supply of goods. Following the terror attack in the commercial capital of the country and its aftermath, traders in Chhattisgarh are apprehensive that the coming marriage season will not yield a great deal.

"Gold and diamond ornaments from Ahmadabad, Rajkot, Solhapur, and Kolhapur coming to Chhattisgarh are routed from Mumbai and following the development, the delivery is likely to delay by 15-20 days that will severely affect the business in marriage season that has already started," Deepchand Dotdiya, a leading jeweller in the state capital, said.

The cloth merchants in the state feel that orders worth crores of rupees will be stuck if normalcy did not return fast as a major garment supply in the state is from Mumbai. "Since the marriage season has started, the traders will be at the receiving end if the supply is disrupted," said cloths merchants. Even the cement and steel industries in the state stand to incur heavy loss. "Mumbai and its suburbs are a big market for the cement and steel industries of Chhattisgarh," said Mahesh Kakkad, President of Chhattisgarh Udyog Mahasangh.

The local industrialists are supply steel and cement in many major on-going projects in Mumbai and its suburbs, he added. As there are apprehensions that the developments in Mumbai will strand the projects for some time, both the sectors in the state are likely to get a jolt. The cement and steel sectors are already reeling under crises due to global recession, the terror attack in Mumbai will worsen the situation, Kakkad added.
