The Adani group-promoted Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone (MPSEZ) is all set to develop a non-LNG port at Hazira.

"Hazira Port has been operating LNG facilities there since 2005, today selected MPSEZ for developing a non-LNG cargo port for handling bulk, break-bulk, container and liquid cargo," an Adani group official said.

The proposed port will be the only common-user deep draft port facility in the region which would cater to the traffic originating/destined from and for south Gujarat, MP and northern Maharashtra.

The port will also be connected with a railroad to be developed by Rail Vikas Nigam though a special purpose vehicle, the official said, adding the existing NH-6 is being upgraded to six-lanes.

The MPSEZ, in addition to operating the country's largest private sector port at Mundra in the Kutch, is also setting up a cargo terminal at Dahej in south Gujarat and Mormugao Port in Goa.
