Munna Maharaj launches fast food outlet
BS Reporter / Kolkata October 04, 2006
Dipak Kumar Singh, better known as caterer Munna Maharaj, recently opened what he described as the world's first Indian cuisine-based fast food outlet, named 'Munna's Food First'.

He said he would use the restaurant for another diversification of his food empire- he would be serving packed meals to offices in the area around his outlet using imported re-usable delivery boxes.

In a parallel move, he said he would be launching a chain of Indian food outlets in Mumbai and Delhi as well as overseas.

"Talks for an outlet in London are at an advanced stage and should be wrapped up soon", Singh said.

The overseas chain would serve Indian cuisine in the fast food format with standard helpings that would match the offerings of a range like McDonalds, claimed Singh.

Singh shot into fame as the man who managed the food at the wedding of Lakshmi Mittal's daughter at Versailles Palace recently, as well as Kumaramangalam Birla's wedding spread.

The vegetarian restaurant was located on Camac Street.

Singh said he planned to set up four more outlets in Kolkata in a few months from now.

"We have imported kitchen equipment, including utensils, seating systems and plastic tiffin carriers and initially would be delivering, for a minimum deposit, to offices in and around Park Street and Camac Street," said Singh.

The 10,000 sq ft, 150-seater restaurant would remain open between 11 am and 11 at night.

The basement offers banqueting for around 250 people, with the option to transform the place into a disco or party lounge.

The food court will have on offer Singh's favourite sweets, like his trademark 'malai pista gilori', 'badam rawa saffron phool' and fruit-pulp jalebis.

The restaurant would also serve South Indian dishes and North Indian mini-meals.
