Mysore tourism to get a boost
BS Reporter / Chennai/ Mysore Oct 03, 2009, 00:07 IST

Mysore will soon have a tourism development authority covering Mysore, Chamarajanagar and Mandya districts.

The authority is aimed at developing a number of tourist places like Chamundi Hills, Srirangapatna, Brindavan Gardens (Krishnarajasagar), Somanathapur, Talakad, Nanjangud and Malai Mahadeswara Hills, chief minister B S Yeddyurappa announced last evening. Speaking to reporters, he said efforts already initiated for overall development of the Chamundi Hills would be completed in a year.

Similarly, Rs 40 crore out of Rs 120 crore for the ‘Panchalinga Darshana’ celebrations (opening up of five Shiva temples) at Talakad in the middle of next month, which would be celebrated on a grand scale, had already been spent on various improvement works. The Chamundeswari Electricity Supply Company is spending Rs one crore — Rs. 30 lakh for permanent lighting and Rs 70 lakh for special lighting during the Jathra.

The chief minister said he had asked the authorities in Mysore to begin preparations from now alone for celebrating the next Dasara on a grand scale.

Expressing satisfaction over the successful conduct of the Dasara just concluded, he said the arrangements made by the authorities led by district-incharge minister Shoba Karandlaje had won appreciation from the people. Arrangements for Talakad Jathra should be made on the same lines, he said. Asked about a separate authority for Dasara, he said it would be considered.
