| Nabard extends aid to Karnataka |

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has sanctioned Rs 90.12 crore as loan assistance to the government of Karnataka for building up rural infrastructure in the various districts of the state. The projects sanctioned cover rural roads, bridges, social sector projects including backward class hostels, secondary schools, first grade colleges and ITIs.
These projects have been sanctioned under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF XVI) and the cumulative sanction to Karnataka during 2010-11 stands at Rs 372.94 crore. Many of the above projects have been sanctioned in the 14 districts which were severely affected by floods during last year, Nabard said in a statement.
Implementation of 78 rural road projects with a total length of 237.12 km and rural bridge projects with a length of 2,555.84 metres is expected to benefit 18 districts connecting 693 villages with 241 marketing centres, besides generating non-recurring employment to the tune of 2.56 million mandays.
Implementation of infrastructure projects related to education, such as secondary schools, backward class student’s hostels, first grade colleges and Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) are expected to help in skill development, employability for a large number of rural youth and provide skilled and productive manpower to manufacturing and services sectors.
