Nalco eyes Rs 10,000 cr in five years
BS Reporter / Kolkata/ Berhampur Sep 18, 2009, 00:18 IST

National Aluminium Company (Nalco) aims to scale up its annual business turnover from Rs 6000 crore at present to Rs 10,000 crore in the next five years despite the prevailing recession in the global economy.

The company expects to achieve the projected turnover through massive expansion both within and outside the country and also by maximum utilization of its human resources, Nalco chairman and managing director CR Pradhan said.

Talking on the future plans of the company, he said, “Plans to acquire mining zones at Gudem and KR Konda mining sites at Chintapalli near Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh) were in the final stage.

Moreover, the second phase expansion of our aluminium smelter at Angul is nearing completion.”

In captive power generation , the navratna aluminium firm plans to scale up its generation capacity from 1080 Mw at present to 1200 Mw after its tenth unit of captive power plant (120 Mw) located at Angul is commissioned.

Besides, the company is coming up with a captive power plant at Jharsuguda, a coal-based power plant with a smelter unit in Indonesia and a smelter plant in Iran, Pradhan informed.

Meanwhile, as a part of its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative, Nalco has decided to set up a 25-bed hospital at Koraput in south Orissa.

The company would set up the hospital if the government provides land for it, he said.

Nalco, which has an alumina refinery plant a Damanjodi in Koraput district, aimed to provide quality healthcare services to the people in the district.

It may be recalled that several political leaders of the district including former chief minister Giridhar Gamang had urged Nalco to establish a hospital in Koraput district.
