NASSCOM shortlists Guj govt projects for social innovation honours
BS Reporter / Mumbai/ Ahmedabad Feb 08, 2012, 00:54 IST

Two projects by the Government of Gujarat have been shortlisted by National Association of Software and Services Companies (NASSCOM) Foundation for its Social Innovation Honours (NSIH) 2012 this year.

An m-commerce project by the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) and the state government's Rural Health Mission, Department of Health and Family Welfare have made it to the top 21 finalists across seven categories to be shortlisted.

Supported by Genpact, one of the leading business process management and technology management firms, NSIH 2012 will announce winners on February 14, 2012.

"It is amazing to see the quality and diversity of talent in our country working on social change. In this fourth year of the NASSCOM Social Innovation Honour, we have seen some notable entries, and taking a decision to short-list these 21 finalists has been a difficult one. While we do have to choose seven winners at the end of it all, each project has shown us a new side to the innovations that India churns out, day after day. This year, more than 1000 participants registered for the Awards, and we would like to thank everyone who showcased their effort through this initiative," said Rita Soni, CEO, NASSCOM Foundation.

While the former has enabled the residents of Rajkot to access e-governance related information on their mobile phones, the latter has empowered grassroots workers to address needs of mothers and infants.
