Navy guns down three Pakistani intruders
Our Regional Bureau / Jamnagar May 19,2004
Three suspected Pakistani fishermen intruded into the Indian waters near Okha port in Jamnagar district of Gujarat were shot dead by a team of the Indian Navy personnel, police said.

The incident took place when the fishermen disobeyed the surrender call given by two naval petrol boats, late on Monday, seven kms inside the Indian waters, said sources at Okha police station.

According to a complaint lodged by Kartik Murthi, Lieutenant Commander of the Indian Navy, in the Okha police station, naval boats FACT-80 and FACT-81, patrolling in the Arabian sea saw ‘Shahensah,’ spotted the Pakistani boat in the Indian water. They fired at the boat when it tried to escape.

Police said Sale Ali Mamad, Jamber Bloch and Muhammad Kasam, three Karachi-based suspected fishermen, were shot dead and Ali Murad Haji Hanif was injured.

The naval petrol apprehended Ibrahim Suleman, Jusub Hasan, Hasan Mamad, Usman Hasan and Amad Suleman and handed over them to Okha police Tuesday afternoon.

According to the complaint filed, the accused fishermen did not surrender to the naval petrol for verification of their testimonials and tried to dash their boat against the naval boat.

The naval battery fired from their light machine gun, killing three on the sport and injuring another.

Both the naval boats were from the Mumbai naval base, said police sources at Okha Port.

Pakistani officials in New Delhi have been informed about the development, but Gujarat state administration is yet to receive any response from the High Commission.

The bodies of all the three Pakistanis have reached Okha, while the injured Pakistani fisherman has been admitted to the Okha General Hospital.
