Nazara Tech to launch mobile games on elections, IPL
Jayajit Dash / Kolkata/ Bhubaneswar Apr 17, 2009, 00:08 IST

Mumbai-based Nazara Technologies, a leading mobile entertainment company, has decided to launch four games on the theme of general elections in the country and the Indian Premier League (IPL) on the mobile platform to take advantage of the current hype around these two mega events.

Nitish Mittersian, chief executive officer, Nazara Technologies said, "Keeping in view the huge popularity of the elections and IPL, Nazara has decided to launch four games on these twin themes by the last week of this month.

The company has tied up with the various cellular operators for these mobile games and we have invested about Rs two lakh on developing content of each of these games."

Nazara has got the gaming rights for a few teams of the IPL like Delhi Daredevils and Deccan Chargers.

The games on elections would be centered on the popular political leaders and they would be humorous in content.

The company is banking on these new games on the mobile platform to bring in incremental revenues. Nazra clocked a revenue of Rs 35 crore in 2008-09 and it is aiming at a revenue of about Rs 50 crore for 2009-10.

The company has a subscriber base of 1.2 million and it expects to add another one million subscribers in this fiscal.

Nazara Technologies is also in talks with leading DTH (direct to home) service providers like Dish TV, Tata Sky and Airtel for possible tie-ups to launch interactive games on the DTH platform.

Asked if the company had plans to launch its interactive games on the online platform, Mittersian said, "We are only focusing on the mobile platform as the mobile gaming platform alone offers a huge potential for growth."

About 90 per cent of the revenues of Nazara Technologies come from the telecom vertical and the company is expecting a further growth in revenue from this segment after the launch of the 3G mobile services. Nazara also aims to roll out products for the 3G enabled mobile handsets.

Apart from its strong focus on the domestic mobile entertainment market, Nazara is also planning to foray into the overseas market by setting up two centres in US and UK in the next six to nine months.

Nazara develops a range of branded and original mobile content by combining technology with a compelling experience to create innovate applications in the mobile environment. Its partners in India are Airtel, Spice, Idea, Vodafone, BPL, Tata Indicom and Reliance India Mobile.
