The proposed policies for the pharma and fertiliser sectors are likely to be cleared soon by the two Groups of Ministers (GoMs) that are looking into the issue, Chemicals and Fertilisers Minister Ram Vilas Paswan said today.
While the pharma policy is expected to be announced later this year, the fertiliser policy will be cleared by March 31, Paswan told reporters here today. Union agriculture minister Sharad Pawar heads both the ministerial groups.
“There is a broad understanding on the proposed pharmaceutical policy. The need for initiating health insurance for below poverty line population and drug banks for anti-cancer and anti-HIV medicines have been appreciated by everyone. The drug pricing aspects of the policy are being looked at. I am sure that the policy will be finalised during the government’s tenure,” Paswan said.
On the fertiliser policy, Paswan said he hopes to introduce a new nutrient-based subsidy scheme for fertilisers by April 1, 2008.
