US daily The New York Times will lay off at least 25 editorial employees at the news service next year and would move the operation to Florida-based newspaper Gainsville Sun.
According to a report on the newspaper's website, the New York Times News Service would cut at least 25 editorial employees next year.
The newspaper also said it would move the editing work of the news service to the Gainesville Sun, a Florida-based newspaper owned by The New York Times Company.
The report said 25 of 30 news service jobs would be eliminated at the main office in New York, with five employees retaining their positions.
The news service uses completed articles and re-edits them for wire distribution.
The newspaper said the current job cuts do not count toward the planned elimination of 100 jobs in The New York Times newsroom. That 8 per cent reduction is to take effect by the end of the year.
