| NHPC may miss 11th Plan capacity addition target |

State-run hydel power utility NHPC may miss its capacity addition targeted for the 11th Plan by 800 Mw, a senior company official said.
"The Parbati project is likely to have slippage and may go beyond the 11th Plan," he said.
The Parbati Hydroelectric Project is a run-of-the-river scheme proposed to harness hydro potential of the lower reaches of the river Parbati in Himachal Pradesh and would generate 800 Mw.
NHPC has been a given a target of adding 5,322 Mw generating capacity in the 11th Five Year Plan (2007-12).
"We have already achieved 1,030 Mw of the Plan target. Another 120 MW unit is likely to be commissioned before the end of this fiscal," NHPC Executive Director (Planning) B R Saraf told reporters on the sidelines of a conference here today.
The company, India's largest hydro-electric power producer, currently has 5,475 Mw capacity under operation.
It has set a target of adding roughly 4,000 Mw generating capacity in the 12th Five Year Plan (2012-17).
India has set itself a target of adding 78,700 Mw capacity in the 11th Five Year Plan.
The government is hopeful that the country may end up adding a capacity of 62,374 Mw, which is about 20 per cent below the original target for the plan.
