Nike Announces Nike+ Human Race 2009

Runners around the World Run a 10k race together on October 24, 2009

Today NIKE India announced the conduct of the first Nike+ Human Race 2009 in the country, a 10k worldwide annual running event. The Nike+ Human Race 2009, in India will be held in Bangalore on October 24, 2009. The Nike+ Human Race will celebrate the sport of running by giving runners world over the opportunity to run together.

Last year Nike hosted the world’s largest, multi-city running event with nearly 780,000 people participating in the Nike+ Human Race.  This year, this global event’s sequel will take place on October 24, 2009 and will once again celebrate the sport of running by giving participants everywhere the opportunity to run together with others around the world.  Nike is hosting runs in more than 24 cities but through Nikeplus.com, every city and every road can become a race day course.  Some of the cities hosting races this year are:  New York City, Los Angeles, Buenos Aires, Rome, Singapore, Paris, Milan, Seoul, London, Bangalore among others.  By combining the virtual running world with the physical, the Nike+ Human Race is open to anyone, anywhere.

"The Nike+ Human Race celebrates runners and their sport by connecting them to other runners around the world through this global event", said Sanjay Gangopadhyay, Marketing Director, Nike India Pvt Ltd. “We are glad to have given running enthusiasts in India this opportunity”, he added.

Race registration for runners in Bangalore opens September 24, 2009 on Nikeplus.in. Runners can also register at Nike stores across the city. Registrations will close on October 17, 2009. The registration fee is Rs. 400 for Students (15 - 21 years) and Rs. 600/- for others. The registration kit for participants will include a specially designed Nike Tee for the Race and a timing chip among others.

The “Run Where You Are” option allows runners to run anywhere on race day by using the Nike+ iPod Sport Kit and logging a 10k run that day. Members of Nikeplus.in can also take advantage of online training tools and experience the full depth of the Nike+ community, which already reaches close to 2 million runners worldwide.

In Bangalore, the Nike+ Human Race will be conducted at Clarks Exotica, Devanahalli Road (near Bangalore International Airport). The event will also host post race festivities for participants on race day. Apart from providing a great running experience and a day filled with fun, Nike India has associated with Dream A Dream as it charity partner for this event.  Visit Nikeplus.in to register for the Nike+ Human Race as well as find out about the training runs conducted by Nike Run Club, charity details and race festivities.
