No rivalry with Ambanis, says Wadia
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Jul 10, 2009, 21:40 IST

Industrialist Nusli Wadia today said he had no rivalry with the Ambanis, debunking the perception the two business families were fierce adversaries.

"I've no rivalry with him (Dhirubhai Ambani)... I'm just saying the rivalry is now at different levels... With different people... Different issues," Wadia said in an interview to a private TV channel, when asked about the old rivalry between him and the late founder of the Reliance business empire.

When asked about fellow industrialist Ratan Tata, he told ET Now: "Tata is a very dear friend... He is a friend, a family..."

On the Singur incident, after which Tatas had to pull out their Nano project from West Bengal, Wadia said, "It was very unfortunate. I don't want to get into it, as I don't want to invite a reaction on Singur for the sake of it."

He added, "Singur is gone, Tata Motors is now in Gujarat happily stationed and Nano is out now. So there is no point commenting on the past. It was a very unfortunate thing that happened, unnecessary."

Asked about Britannia's growth plan after Dannone's exit from the company, Wadia said, "Our growth plans haven't actually changed... We continue to evolve, basically to diversify our products, to go into more products. We want Britannia to be a complete food company, than a snack company."
