Now, software to measure employee productivity
Hrishikesh Joshi / Mumbai/ Pune Aug 04, 2011, 00:14 IST

City-based InnovizeTech has developed an automated solution 'Sapience' that measures productivity or estimates an employee's efforts. It can measure productivity on a project level, team level or employee level and the company has invested Rs 1.60 crore for this product.

Currently, the company has over 25 installations, ranging from large IT services firms to product-based companies, medium and small IT companies and KPOs. Its target consumers are software firms, banks, insurance firms and other firms whose employees use computers to deliver their output.

"Sapience is achieved largely through employee self-driven gain of at least one extra work hour per day within the first 30-45 days. Sapience will be customised to register these applications as work applications, and will calculate how much time the banker spent on them at the end of the day. Other benefits such as improved work efficiency by optimising activity mix and higher capacity utilisation at all levels. This has a transformational impact on delivery capacity, client satisfaction and profitability," said Shirish Deodhar, co-founder of InnovizeTech.

The company claims that with this, an individual can view their own data to improve their working patterns and to optimise their work-life balance. Also, the managers get a break up of the effort put in by their teams across various projects and activities, which can help them identify and resolve delays and bottlenecks in the delivery process. It can improve productivity by 20 per cent. Deodhar added, "In India, we have young employees of average age 25-26 years who are very motivated, want to do good work, but have lot of distractions. Given the right tool, 90 per cent of them initiate active self-improvements. Also, in case of a small team it's easy to keep tabs on everyone, but when you have 1000 plus employees in your company; it's difficult to keep tabs,"

According to Deodhar, Sapience gives exact time spent on PC and away from PC. For on-PC time, it tells the user precisely time on each application (desktop or web), including files and URLs. Official applications are marked to work. New URLs are marked as private by default to protect employee privacy. They can change it to work.

Only work related mapped time goes to the server and is aggregated based on the team structure. At the server, managers (and users) get various trends and reports. Since authorised managers can also see work related apps, URLs and files (bit not those marked as Private), users will be careful not to mark personal URLs and apps as work.

The company has filed a preliminary disclosure with the office of the controller general of patents for a global patent and received funding from 24 of India's CEOs and investors who are part of the Indian Angel Network.

InnovizeTech has four co-founders whose previous two companies were acquired by Veritas Software Corporation in 1999 and Symphony Services, following which they scaled their Pune operations in revenue. It is expecting to increase the headcount to over 700 employees in the next three years.

Recently, Zensar Technologies has signed an agreement with InnovizeTech Software for licensing Sapience. This solution will be integrated into Zensar's internally developed Business Intelligence platform for effort analytics and estimation.
