In an attempt to take a more professional approach towards filmmaking, 'Rang De Basanti' writer Kamlesh Pandey has designed a course exclusively focused on writing screenplay.
Pandey, who has scripted stories for 'Rang De Basanti', 'Delhi 6' and 'Tezaab', said the course is spread over two and half months and aims to hone the skills of aspiring screenplay writers.
"Over 90 per cent of films made in India flop because the script is neglected and writers are not given their due respect," Pandey told PTI.
A professional infrastructure for script development is lacking and 'Scriptwallah', conceptualised by himself and his script writer-friend from Hollywood Ben Rekhi, aims to fill in the gap, he said.
"We believe that foundation of great cinema is strong screenwriting. 'Scriptwallah' is a two-and-a-half month course where the aspiring screenwriters will be helped to hone their screenwriting skills," Pandey said.
"Unlike in other institutes, the sessions here will be held two days a week. We will go step by step - ideas will come from the students which will be evaluated step by step. It will be seen whether the idea is worth it and developed into a screenplay," he said.
