NTPC to invest Rs 15,968 cr to generate 2,320 Mw more by 2015
Press Trust of India / New Delhi Jul 17, 2009, 16:47 IST

The country's largest power producer, NTPC, would invest Rs 15,968 crore for commissioning two power projects in Maharashtra by 2015.

NTPC is executing a 1,000 Mw thermal power project at Mouda and 1,320 Mw plant at Sholapur in Maharashtra at an investment of Rs 5,460 crore and Rs 10,508 crore, respectively.

"The work at the Mouda power project was initiated in November last year and is expected to be commissioned during 2011-12," Minister of State for Power Bharatsingh Solanki said in a written reply in the Lok Sabha.

The work on the Sholapur plant has been initiated after land and water commitment from the state government, he said, adding that the project is scheduled to be commissioned during the year 2014-15.

Meanwhile, Power Minister Sushilkumar Shinde said the reasons for delay in the implementation of the Rajiv Gandhi Grameen Vidyutikaran Yojana (RGGVY), including delay in forest clearance for the execution of the projects in some states, a limited number of qualifying agencies available for execution of turn-key contracts, shortage of material and high prices.

In a written reply in the Lok Sabha, he said the ministry is taking steps for effective implementation of RGGVY. An inter-ministerial monitoring committee will review the progress of implementation. The project execution will be on a turn-key basis and the fund flow has been streamlined.
