Number of CAT applicants may be similar to last year's
BS Reporter / Ahmedabad Oct 12, 2009, 01:20 IST

The Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) expect the number of candidates appearing for the ensuing Common Admission Test (CAT) to be similar to last year. According to Satish Deodhar, convenor of CAT 2009, the number of registrations last year was around 246,000.

“At the last count, the number of registrations was 235,000. The sale of vouchers, which was stopped on October 8, have been similar to what it was last year. However, the final numbers are being collated by Prometric and will be available in a day or two,” said Deodhar.

Prometric, a technology-enabled testing and assessment services company, will conduct the computer-based CAT exams, scheduled between November 28 and December 7 this year.

The registration window for CAT 2009, which ended today, had been extended from October 1 due to the long list of bank holidays last month that had prevented many students from buying CAT vouchers.

CAT’s online registration had developed some glitches wherein the students were unable to edit any wrong information put by them in the online form. However, IIMs and Prometric rectified the glitches by adding more features to the online form.
