Addressing mediapersons here on Wednesday, NVIDIA co-founder, president and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said the company had invested one-eighth ($500 million) of its revenues in developing the product, which is expected to benefit over 15 million researchers worldwide. The price of the product range starts from Rs 155,000 in India.

“Heterogeneous computing, where GPUs work in tandem with CPUs, made such a breakthrough possible. This technology will allow India’s research community to process data more quickly and cut discovery time,” he said after inaugurating NVIDIA’s visual computing lab at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT)-Hyderabad.

The lab would provide the students and the institute with equipment, software licences and the requisite know-how to further their research in the field of GPU engineering and visual computing. A part of the research in the lab will be focused on massively parallel programming and utilising the power of the GPU for new fields such as keyword detection in videos.
