OERC fixes tariff for agro-based industries
BS Reporter / Kolkata/ Bhubaneswar Nov 04, 2009, 00:02 IST

The Orissa Electricity Regulatory Commission (OERC), in exercise of the power under section 62 (4) of the Electricity Act, 2003, has fixed the tariff for the newly created category of agro-based industries in the state.

This will be applicable to the non-agriculturist consumers from 9 November 2009. As per the tariff fixed by the Commission, for irrigation pumping and agriculture in the LT category, the energy charge will be Rs 1.10 per kilo watt hour (kwh).

While the monthly minimum fixed charge for first kw will be Rs 20, the monthly fixed charge for additional kw will be Rs 10 per kw. Similarly, for allied agricultural activities, the energy charge will be Rs 1.20 per kwh with the monthly minimum fixed charge for first kw and the monthly fixed charge for additional kw being the same as above.

The allied and the agro-industrial activities in the LT category will pay for energy at the rate of Rs 2.20 per kwh with the monthly minimum fixed charge for first kw being Rs 80 and the monthly fixed charge for additional kw being Rs 50.

On the other hand, for the irrigation pumping and agriculture consumers in the HT category, the demand charge will be Rs 30 per month and the energy charge will be Re 1 per kwh. The customer service charge will be Rs 250 per month.

For allied agricultural activities in HT category, the demand charge will be Rs 30 per month and the energy charge will be Rs 1.10 per kwh.

For allied and agro-industrial activities in the HT category, the demand charge will be Rs 50 per month and energy charge will be Rs 2.10 per kwh. The Commission has fixed the customers service charge for all three categories of HT consumers at Rs 250 per month. Besides, these categories of consumers will get rebate of 10 paise per kwh.

It may be noted, the Orissa High Court had directed OERC to consider the feasibility of creating an additional tariff category for agro based industries, applicable to non-agricultural consumers.
