The occasion – Vintage Car and Motorcycle Rally based on the theme ‘Travel and Transport-From the imagination of Jules Verne to 21st century reality’ , which was organised as part of the World Tourism Day celebrations here today.

| Rolling out from the stable of Hyderabad-based Deccan Heritage Automobile Association, which was invited to showcase its impressive collections, the cars and bikes ranged from the time of World War II to the 1970s.

| “Tourism brings the world together. The show has been organised to encourage people to showcase cars and bikes of vintage (pre-1950) and classic (post-1950) era,” said a tourism department official.

| The celebrations were flagged off by state tourism minister J Geeta Reddy. The minister later flagged off six city tour luxury coaches and commissioned Khair-un-Nissa, a Rs 1.6-crore twin-deck lake cruiser decked with all modern facilities, on the Hussain Sagar. The Andhra Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation already runs two large vessels – Bhagmati and Bhageerathi – apart from 14 mechanised boats.

| The new vessel, commissioned to meet the increasing demand for a cruiser to hold conferences and parties, can accommodate up to 150 people at a time. The six guided city tour coaches have been especially designed for city, heritage, Ramoji Film City, leisure and half-day tours.
