| Parliament was adjourned after noisy protests by the opposition over a statement by the United States that the nuclear deal with India would be scrapped if New Delhi conducted a nuclear test.

| Agitated members from the NDA and the UNPA were on their feet right from the morning. Angry protests lead to adjournment of the Rajya Sabha once and the Lok Sabha twice before both the Houses were adjourned for the day.

| The Rajya Sabha was adjourned as Chairman Hamid Ansari failed to rein in an angry opposition. The opposition members stormed the well in the Lok Sabha, which was adjourned in the afternoon.

| In the Rajya Sabha, some opposition members were heard demanding resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and accusing him of misleading the House on the nuclear deal.

| Interestingly, MPs from the Left parties joined the noisy protests of the opposition in the Lok Sabha, though in the Rajya Sabha, the Left members sat quietly as NDA-UNPA members protested.

| In the Lok Sabha, TDP leader YS Yerramnaidu said the prime minister should come to the House and explain the situation to the nation. CPI(M) leader Basudeb Acharia also joined the protests. In the Rajya Sabha, NDA members demanded an apology from the prime minister.

| Meanwhile, CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury claimed the prime minister was ready to make a statement in Parliament that under the deal, India retained the right to test its nuclear capabilities. |
