Orient Ceramics Q1 '09-10 net profit up 90%

Orient Ceramics and Industries Limited (OCIL), India’s leading tile manufacturing company, today announced financial results for the quarter ended 30th June 2009. OCIL’s Profit After Tax (PAT) grew by 90%, standing at Rs 1.52 crore as compared to Rs 0.80 crore in Q1FY08.

The company reported Profit Before Tax (PBT) of Rs.2.31 crore, up 110% over Rs.1.10 crore for Q1FY08. The company’s Net Sales for the period stood at Rs 54.30 crore. Earnings Per Share (EPS) for the quarter stood at Rs 1.44 as compared to Rs 0.76 posted in Q1FY08.

Mr. Vijay Shankar Sharma, Chief Financial Officer, OCIL, says, “We have continued on our growth path, building on our excellent financial performance in 2008-09. The growth in this quarter as well as last year is the result of our sound financial policies and strategic management decisions.”

Speaking on the announcement, Mr. Madhur Daga, Executive Director, OCIL, says, “We have managed to insulate our business from the slowdown in the real estate industry and grow profitability significantly. The business is expected to be even better with pick-up in real estate industry.”
