Orissa to review IT projects soon
BS Reporter / Kolkata/ Bhubaneswar Jun 03, 2009, 00:34 IST

The Orissa IT department would review the status of the existing IT projects and the investment proposals in the sector in the state in a meeting slated to be held later this month.

“The first review meeting of the state IT department after the Lok Sabha and Assembly polls in the state would be held later this month. The focus of the meeting would be on the status of the existing as well as the IT investment proposals which are yet to see the light of the day”, a senior IT official told Business Standard. While the big four of the IT sector-Infosys Technologies, Wipro Technologies, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and Satyam Computer Services already have a presence in Orissa, the state had also attracted investment proposals from other IT investors like Genpact, MindTree Consulting, Raheja Corporation and Apeejay Surrendra Group.TCS which had inaugurated its development centre-TCS Kalinga Park in the city in January this year had a capacity to accommodate 1,000 employees. However, the TCS centre in the city was manned by only 400 employees.

The software major was looking at a long-term manpower pool of about 7,000-10,000 professionals for its Bhubaneswar centre. Wipro Technologies had taken possession of 26 acres in the Infocity area of the city for setting up its full-fledged development centre.
