Perturbed by the slow expenditure during the first six months of the current fiscal, the Orissa government has formed two panels to suggest measures for improving the efficiency and quality of public expenditure.
One panel is headed by the secretary in the rural development department, Tara Datt and the other by fishery and animal resources department secretary, G Mohan Kumar. Both the panels will submit their report to the government within 2 months.
“We have constituted two committees to review the expenditure in various departments and suggest measures to improve efficiency and quality of public expenditure. This is expected to improve the service delivery”, Jugal Kishore Mohapatra, secretary, finance, Orissa government said.
He said, the first committee headed by Tara Datt will review expenditures relating to the engineering departments. It has secretaries of the works, water resources, housing and urban development (H&UD), works and energy departments as members. Similarly, the committee headed by G Mohan Kumar will review expenditures relating to sectors other than the public works.
This committee has secretaries of home, agriculture, women and child development, food and civil supplies, higher education and industry departments as members. The latest measure of the government assumes importance as the expenditure by various departments during the first six months of 2009-10 was only 20 per cent.
