Pearson Education conducts a Workshop on New Ways of Teaching Grammar
Announcement / Corporate Sep 04, 2010, 16:03 IST

Pearson Education, the global leader in educational publishing, conducted a workshop today on “New ways of looking at and Teaching Grammar” by an international training consultant Richard Cooper. The event was graced by the presence of school principals and English language faculties.

Richard Cooper, an International Training Consultant gave an overview of grammar and the new trends in the field, and emphasized the challenges in teaching this subject. He shared some methods for making the subject interesting and interactive from both the instructors and the students’ point of view.

On this occasion Pearson Education introduced Pearson’s A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language. It is the most thorough and most definitive grammar of modern English ever written with a completely up-to-date and authoritative treatment of British and American English

Speaking on the occasion, Richard Cooper said, “Grammar is as necessary to language as water is to the making of tea. We need it to carry our messages on for example the difference between tea and coffee and so on. Yet the study of grammar can sometimes discourage students as it is potentially far less interesting then the taste of words themselves. It can seem too technical,. Too much legalism. Teachers however can work on ways to demonstrate the flavor of grammar while reflecting on it. Because grammar is not inherently uninteresting, far from it. Getting learners attention through engaging reflections on lexis, meaning and grammar will go along way in stimulating learners’ own natural acquisition strategies, the way they have learned their mother tongue by the age of five.”

“Grammar is important because it is the language that makes it possible for us to talk about language. Grammar names the types of words and word groups that make up sentences not only in English but in any language. Thus it is necessary that teachers and faculties are introduced to the new developments in the field of English grammar, for a well educated population tomorrow.”
