Pepper, jeera remain weak on sluggish demand

Black pepper and jeera prices fell by Rs 300 per quintal in the national capital today owing to sluggish demand. Lower advices from producing belts and weaking trend in futures markets also kept pressure on the prices.

Black pepper prices fell by Rs 300 to conclude at Rs 20,500-20,700 per quintal. Jeera common and jeera best quality also declined by Rs 300 to conclude at Rs 13,400-13,700 and Rs 14,600-15,100 per quintal, respectively.

Marketmen said reduced offtake by local parties and stockists and weakening trend in futures markets, pulled down black pepper and jeera prices in the wholesale kirana market here.

Following are today's quotations (per quintal):

Ajwain 14,000-19,500, black pepper common 20,500-20,700, betelnut (kg) 85-105, cardamom brown-Jhundiwali (kg) 700-725 and cardamom brown -Kanchicut (kg) 800-900

Cardamom small (kg): Chitridar 1,220-1,320, cardamom (colour robin) 1,310-1,320, cardamom bold 1,330-1,340, cardamom extra (bold) 1,520-1,540 and cloves (kg) 315-380

Chirounji (new) (kg) Rs 410-450 Dry mango( raipur) Rs 6,000-8,500 Dhania Rs 3,000-8,800 Dry ginger Rs 20,500-25,000 Kalaunji Rs 10,000-11,800 Mace-Red (kg) Rs 1140-1350
